Cutting speed and feed rate drive tool life, finish quality, and cycle time. This calculator outputs starter values for spindle speed, feed rate, chip load, and surface speed so you can tune quickly on the machine.
Start with the calculated values, make a short test cut, and adjust based on chip shape, finish, spindle load, and heat. Consistent chips and stable sound generally indicate healthy parameters.

Tool burn-up, chatter, built-up edge, chip color vs calculator, or RPM beyond machine max: Cutting Speed Troubleshooting. Carbide vs HSS (speed capability & machine match): Carbide vs HSS Tooling.
Carbide tolerates higher heat and maintains edge hardness at higher cutting speeds, enabling faster SFM and feed rates on rigid setups.
Dust-like chips usually indicate rubbing. Increase feed per tooth or reduce RPM to restore positive chip formation.
