The runtime estimate uses tank volume, pressure drop, tool CFM, and duty cycle. It calculates usable stored air between your start and end pressures, then divides by effective CFM usage.
Usable Air (CF) = Tank gallons × (Start PSI - End PSI) / (14.7 × 7.48)
Runtime (minutes) = Usable Air / (Tool CFM × Duty Cycle)
An impact wrench might consume 5 CFM when triggered, but if it runs only 30% of the time your effective use is 1.5 CFM. That significantly extends practical runtime.
You can only use the pressure range between cut-out and cut-in, not the entire tank volume. Narrow pressure ranges mean very little usable air.
Yes. Reduce leaks, tune regulator pressure correctly, and use a wider usable pressure range where your tools allow.
You likely need a larger tank, lower duty cycle usage pattern, or a compressor with higher delivery CFM.
