BuyWelder Performance Qualification test record — companion to the WPS Builder
Document the welder, WPS referenced, process, coupon, positions, and test results. Export a formatted WPQ test record PDF or save/load JSON drafts. Load a WPS Builder .json export to pre-fill the reference section. This is a documentation template — it does not qualify or certify a welder.
How to use: Fill required fields (welder name, WPQ number, WPS referenced, at least one process), enter test results, then Export WPQ PDF. Use Save (.json) to resume later. Load WPQ / WPS (.json) restores a WPQ draft fully, or pre-fills the reference section from a WPS Builder export. Required fields block PDF export until complete. Have the record reviewed by a qualified individual before relying on it.
AWS code books and official welder qualification form pads are common shop references for performance qualification records.
A Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records that a specific person demonstrated a sound weld under stated test conditions. This tool formats the details you enter into a clean PDF layout — it does not perform visual, bend, tensile, RT/UT, or fillet-break testing, and it does not compute the qualified range (position, thickness, diameter) from code tables. Treat the export as a starting draft for shop documentation, then have a qualified individual (e.g., a CWI) evaluate the actual tests per AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, or your applicable code.
A WPQ references the WPS the welder tested against. Use Load WPQ / WPS (.json) with a file from the WPS Builder (_type: testtalkhq-wps) to copy WPS number, process(es), and base metal into the reference fields only. Welder identity and test results stay blank for you to fill. Loading a WPQ export (_type: testtalkhq-wpq) restores the full form.
Draft the procedure the welder tests against with the WPS Builder Calculator. For how qualification and specification relate, see WPS vs PQR and WPQ vs WPS. Code context: What Is AWS D1.1? and the AWS D1.1 Quiz. Field walkthrough: WPQ Builder Guide.
