BuyTPI selection, blade speed (SFM/FPM), and cut-time estimates for metal and wood
Enter material, stock shape, cut height, and blade type to get recommended teeth-per-inch, surface feet per minute, teeth-in-cut check, and reference cut time. Based on published Lenox/Starrett-style shop ranges.
TPI is chosen from cut height — the dimension of stock engaged by the blade. Round bar uses diameter; square uses side length; rectangular uses thickness (height of cut).
SFM (surface feet per minute) is blade rim speed. On horizontal and vertical bandsaws, charts often label this SFM or FPM interchangeably because the blade travels in a straight line through the cut.
Wheel RPM formula: RPM = (SFM × 12) ÷ (π × wheel diameter in inches). Example: 250 SFM on a 14″ wheel → about 68 RPM.
Catalog gap: TestTalkHQ’s affiliate CSV has no bandsaw blade listings yet — this pack focuses on selection math and shop references, not product cards.
