Not a permit, not a substitute for the adopted code in your jurisdiction. 2018 IRC §R905.2.8.5 requires drip edge at eaves and rakes on asphalt-shingle roofs: minimum 1/4 in below the roof sheathing, minimum 2 in flange overlap onto the deck, minimum 3 in overlap at end joints, fastened at maximum 12 in on center. Some jurisdictions amend or delete this section locally — Minnesota’s state amendment deletes R905.2.8.5 entirely (Minn. Admin. R. 1309.0905 subp. 2).
